Sterling College Athletics announces 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees

STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College Athletics announces it's 2026 Hall of Fame recipients. This year's class includes three student athletes, one coach, one community contributor and two KCAC Championship teams. Sterling College's sixteenth Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on October 3 and will be held at halftime of the homecoming football game against Bethel College. More information about the induction ceremony and homecoming events will be made public as the Hall of Fame Weekend approaches.

The 2026 Hall of Fame class includes: Randall C. Henry class of '72 (contributor), Darrell Tossie class of '86 (football/track & field), Britany (Gasper) Brubaker class of '11 (women's basketball), Cedrique Smith '13 (track & field/football), Adrian Dinkel head baseball coach 2011-2016, the 2013 KCAC Champion Baseball Team and the 2016 KCAC Champion Baseball Team.

Randall C. Henry '72

A distinguished student-athlete and campus leader, Randall Henry has been a contributor to Sterling College and Sterling College Athletics on and off campus over the past 58 years.

Henry was deeply involved in campus life, while on campus serving in:

Pi Kappa Delta (four years; Vice President as a sophomore)
Science Club (four years)
Tennis (four-year letterman)
National Pi Kappa Delta Conference representative
S-Club (four years)

Following graduation, Henry continued decades of service and contributions to Sterling College:

Long-time roles as an adjunct professor
Served on Football Sideline Chain Gang for 52 years
Board of Trustees Member for the past 43 years (Current Chairman of the Board)
Welcomed generations of students to Sterling by acting as a "host family" for 40 years
Public Address announcer for Warrior Basketball, 30 years and counting

Darrell Tossie '86 – Football / Track & Field

A dominant defensive force and multi-sport standout, Darrell Tossie was a four-year starter for Sterling College Football and a letterman in track and field.

Tossie earned All-KCAC honors four times times—Honorable Mention in 1982, Second Team in 1983 and 1984, and First Team in 1985—while amassing an impressive 350 career tackles. He was named Sterling's Outstanding Defensive Lineman in 1984 and 1985 and Most Valuable Player in 1985. National Strength Coaches Association All-American in 1983, top 100 including all of NCAA Div. 1- NAIA.

In 1986, Tossie added to his legacy by setting the Sterling College Shot Put record with a throw of 52'9", a mark that continues to stand as the best in program history.

His combination of toughness, production, and multi-sport excellence places him among Sterling's most impactful athletes of the 1980s.

Britany (Gasper) Brubaker '11 – Women's Basketball

A cornerstone of one of the most successful eras in Sterling Women's Basketball, Britany Gasper was a four-year starter on teams that won four straight KCAC Championships and made four consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances.

Her career progression was remarkable:

Honorable Mention All-KCAC as a freshman and sophomore
First Team All-KCAC as a junior and senior
KCAC Defensive Team as a senior
KCAC Player of the Year (2010–11)
NAIA Second Team All-American (2010–11)

Gasper scored 1,464 career points, including 481 as a senior, and consistently averaged between 5 and 6 rebounds per game. She ranks among Sterling's all-time leaders in both scoring and rebounding.

Her combination of production, consistency, and championship pedigree places her among the elite players in program history.

Adrian Dinkel – Baseball Coach (2011–2016)

During his five seasons as head baseball coach, Adrian Dinkel transformed Sterling College Baseball into a nationally recognized powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Warriors compiled an exceptional 232–77 overall record, establishing themselves as one of the premier programs in the NAIA.

Season by season, Dinkel's teams delivered championship-level performance:

2012: 45–14 – KCAC Champions / NAIA Opening Round
2013: 48–14 – KCAC Champions / NAIA World Series
2014: 40–20 – KCAC Tournament Champions / NAIA Opening Round
2015: 47–15 – KCAC Tournament Champions / NAIA Opening Round
2016: 52–16 – KCAC Champions / NAIA World Series

Across his tenure, Dinkel guided Sterling to:

His 2013 and 2016 teams set back-to-back school and conference records for wins (48 and 52), with the 2016 squad finishing 5th at the NAIA World Series.

Adrian Dinkel's tenure stands as one of the most successful coaching eras in Sterling College history, marked by sustained excellence, national relevance, and a championship standard that elevated the entire program.

Cedrique Smith – Track & Field/Football (2013)

Cedrique Smith stands as one of the most decorated multi-sport athletes in Sterling College history and the only NAIA National Champion ever produced by the Men's Track & Field program.

In 2013, Smith captured the NAIA Outdoor National Championship in the 110-meter hurdles, earning All-American honors. He was also the NAIA National Runner-Up in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season.

His dominance extended across the conference and school record books, where he holds:

The KCAC and Sterling College indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles
The KCAC and Sterling College outdoor record in the 110-meter hurdles
The Sterling College record in the 400-meter hurdles

Smith's elite performances also included winning the Kansas Relays in 2013, one of the region's premier collegiate track events.

In addition to his historic track career, Smith was a key contributor to the 2013 KCAC Football Championship Team, starting in the secondary. In Sterling's NAIA Playoff appearance that season, he delivered a standout performance, recording two interceptions and 10 tackles, earning Defensive Player of the Game honors in a narrow 10–7 loss to Baker University.

Cedrique Smith's rare combination of national-level track excellence and championship-caliber football impact makes him one of the most exceptional dual-sport athletes ever to represent Sterling College.

2013 Sterling College Baseball Team

The 2013 Sterling College Warrior Baseball Team delivered one of the most historic seasons in program history, culminating in the school's first-ever appearance in the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Adrian Dinkel, the Warriors emerged as a national contender and a powerhouse within the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) after winning the NAIA Oklahoma City Opening Round, where No. 15 Sterling defeated No. 2 Oklahoma City 1–0 to clinch the program's first-ever berth in the NAIA World Series. With the victory, the Warriors added the title of NAIA Oklahoma City Opening Round Champion to their accomplishments, joining their honors as KCAC Co-Champions and KCAC Tournament Champions.

The Warriors finished the year with an outstanding 48–14 overall record and a dominant 24–4 mark in KCAC play, showcasing excellence on both sides of the ball.

Sterling's remarkable regular season and postseason performance secured the program's first trip to the NAIA World Series, marking a defining milestone for Warrior Baseball. Their 48-win campaign set a new standard for excellence and signaled Sterling's rise to national prominence.

2016 Sterling College Baseball

The 2016 Sterling College Warrior Baseball Team completed one of the greatest seasons in program and KCAC history, finishing fifth in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll and establishing a new school record with an extraordinary 52–16 overall record. The Warriors captured both the KCAC Tournament Championship and the NAIA National Opening Round Championship, earning a coveted berth to the Avista-NAIA World Series.

Sterling dominated statistically as well, finishing the season with the best team batting average in the nation (.354) and ranking ninth nationally in team ERA (3.03)—a rare combination of elite offense and elite pitching.

After winning the KCAC Tournament, Sterling entered the NAIA Opening Round Jamestown Bracket as the No. 1 seed. The Warriors won the bracket to secure their place in Lewiston, Idaho, where they earned two victories before being eliminated by eventual national runner-up Faulkner University.

The 2016 Warriors set a new standard for excellence, competitiveness, and national relevance, cementing their place as one of the most accomplished teams in Sterling College Athletics history.
