Sterling College announces changes in Cheer leadership
STERLING, Kan. – The Sterling College athletic leadership team in Scott Downing and Justin Morris have announced that Coach Casie Lacey has stepped down as head cheer coach and that Jessica Boor will return as Sterling College's new head cheer coach.
"I feel so lucky to have been a part of this program for the last six years," said Casie Lacey. "We have made some great progress, and I can't wait to see how the team continues to grow in the future. Sterling College and all of the athletes I have worked with throughout the years will always have a special place in my heart!"
"We would like to thank Coach Lacey for her time here as our cheer coach," said Athletic Director Justin Morris. "She did a great job leading our cheer program during her tenure. We wish her and her family all the best moving forward."
"Justin and I are looking forward to watching the cheerleading program continue to grow under Coach Boor's leadership," said Vice President for Athletics, Scott Downing. "We are confident that Jessica will recruit well and build upon the foundation left by Coach Lacey. We wish Casie our best as she and her family pursue a new direction."
Boor returns to Sterling College after being the head cheer coach at SC for six years from 2011-2017. Boor was key in helping develop the cheer program before taking over for the Sterling High School cheer team. Boor has years of experience in the cheer world, spending time with Sterling High School, the Salina Kansas Cagerz, Barton County Community College, and Sterling College.
"I am blessed to be given this opportunity again to coach SC Cheer. This time on a full-time basis," said Boor. "I wasn't excited about leaving SC and I am happy to be back. I thank Justin & Scott for investing time in what is to come with this program!"
Boor is a Sterling native and graduated from Sterling High School in 2007. She has three children, Brentley, Brock, and Braylee and she was recently engaged to Eric Saiz, SC alumni '06, who adds Jaelynn, Amalia, Eliana, and Micah to the family.
"We are very excited about the energy Coach Boor has expressed in returning to lead our cheer program and commitment to building a competitive program here at SC. This is an area where we feel we can grow and be competitive within the KCAC and the NAIA ranks."
