“Baptista to Stucky” Works Even in Homecoming Loss

Sterling, Kan. – Dexter Walker Jr. began the day by being crowned as Sterling College's 2024 Homecoming King and proceeded to lead the team in tackles against #25 Southwestern College.

The Warriors took a punch in the mouth on the first drive of the game by Southwestern after a nearly successful onside kick literally fell through the hands of the Warrior's special teams. Southwestern marched down the field for a quick TD. Sterling held their own after a punt and Jakobi Spence made a great play on a ball for an interception. On the ensuing possession, Sterling put together a 16 play, 65 yard, nine minute and thirty-five second drive that ended with "Baptista to Stucky" for the 8 yard touchdown. Sterling tied the game at 7 early in the second quarter. That was only score Sterling would get the rest of the afternoon. Southwestern scored 35 straight to make the game final 42-7.

Walker ended the game with a game high 12 tackles followed by Hunter Pullen with 8. Flin Cameron made his presence known early on with a sack for an 8 yard loss. Landon Pfannenstiel took advantage of a bad snap to record a sack as well.

Jordan Slocum completed six passes for 58 yards and Rocklin Baptista completed seven passes for 45 yards and had the TD pass to Ryan Stucky. The two quarterbacks combined for three interceptions. Baptista was also the leading rusher with 64 yards on 13 carries. Stucky led all receivers with 5 receptions for 50 yards and the TD.

The road does not get any easier for the 0-5 Warriors as they travel to Friends University to take on the #22 Falcons on Saturday. Kick off is scheduled for 1 pm.
