Warriors finish second at KCAC Match Play Championship

The Sterling College Warriors finished second in the Gold Bracket of the KCAC Match play Championships hosted in Dodge City, Kan. on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20-21. The teams played on the Mariah Hills Golf Course, a 6,920-yard course with a total par of 71.

In the Gold Bracket, the Warriors started by facing the no. 4 seeded Southwestern College and getting the 3-2 win.

Sondre Storli Jensen started things with a win over Christian Campbell, coming back from an early 3 shot deficit. Jensen finished even with par while Campbell shot a 72. Tobias Tajet also found success against Sebastian Read, leading from the start and finishing five strokes under Read. However, their round was cut short due to an early sunset and the pair only played 14 of the 18 holes.

Thomas Castelblanco also had his play against Mitchell Lehman cut short. He finished four shots under Lehman through 16 holes to come away with the win for Sterling.

Anders Hermansen took on Jordan Clancy, coming up just two shots short. Hermansen shot a 76 through 18 holes while Clancy shot a 74. Zach Surface also fell short to Cameron Surles, both shot a 79 through 18 holes, but Surles came out on top with in a playoff on the 19 hole.

In the championship round of match play, Sterling took on Friends University and came up just short with the Falcons taking the 3.5-1.5 win.

Castelblanco got the lone win for the Warriors against the Falcon's Gabriele Romani. Due to weather, the duo played 16 holes, with Castelblanco finishing 1UP against. Hermansen took on Bernhard Koster and finished tied through 16 holes.

Surface lost to Jenson Boyce by one stroke through 16 holes, Tajet finished four strokes behind Laken Matthews threw 15 holes, and Jensen finished two strokes behind Trinton Nobles through 17 holes.

This concludes the fall season for Warrior Golf. The team will be back in action in the spring.
