Warrior men, women both finish third at Sunflower Showdown
Warrior Swim traveled to Topeka, Kan. to compete in the Sunflower Showdown. Both men and women had a strong showing in the event with both teams finishing third. In the team scores.
On the men's side, Gavin Turner made his Warrior debut, coming off a shoulder injury. Juwayne (JJ) Silmon and Turner both competed in the 100Y backstroke, finishing fifth and sixth with times of 1:10.18 and 1:12.98, respectively.
Silmon also competed in the 100Y butterfly, where he swam a time of 1:03.59 to place eighth.
Also competing for the Warriors was Parker Rea, he swam a time of 24.68 in the 50Y freestyle to finish fifth.
Ian Esquivel competed in the 200Y freestyle where he finished in seventh with a time of 2:16.39.
All four Warriors teamed up in the 200Y freestyle relay. The group finished in fifth with a time of 1:42.95 in the swimming order of Silmon, Turner, Esquivel and Rea.
For the women, Allison Reed, Lydia Nelson, Campbell Elliott and Hilde Heskett teamed up in the 200Y medley relay and finished in seventh with a time of 2:08.23.
Nelson also competed in the 100Y freestyle where she finished in eighth with a time of 1:03.12. She also swam in the 100Y breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:15.99 to place sixth.
The Warriors will be back in action this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
