Men finish second, women third at Eagle Invite
EDMOND, Okla. – Sterling College swimming competed at the OCU Eagle Invite on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15. Bree Pickerell had another dominant performance breaking school records in the 1000Y freestyle and 500Y freestyle. The men finished the meet in second place while the women finished in third.
On the women's side, the team of Allison Reed, Lydia Nelson, Abby Cagle and Campbell Elliott swam a time of 2:05.42 to finish eighth in the 200Y medley relay. In the 800Y freestyle relay, Elliott, Reed, Bree Pickerell and Nelson swam a time of 9:03.28 to finish fifth. Pickerell, Nelson, Cagle and Elliot also competed in the 200Y freestyle relay finishing sixth with a time of 1:49.25.
In the 400Y medley relay, Pickerell, Nelson, Cagle and Reed came together to swim a time of 4:39.07 and finish seventh.
Bree Pickerell broke the school record in the 1000Y freestyle with a time of 11:13.00 to place sixth. She also broke the school record in the 500Y freestyle finishing in sixth with a time of 5:32.59.
Nelson competed in the 200Y individual medley where she finished 13th with a time of 2:27.98. She also competed in the 100Y breaststroke where she swam a time of 1:13.11 to place eighth.
In the 50Y freestyle, Cagle and Reed placed 17th and 18th with times of 26.33 and 27.26, respectively. Elliott and Hilde Heskett also competed finishing 20th and 21st with times of 28.17 and 28.32, respectively.
In the 200Y freestyle, Nelson, Elliott and Reed placed 17th, 18th and 19th with times of 2:11.70, 2:18.62 and 2:20.95, respectively.
Pickerell and Reed also competed in the 100Y backstroke, placing 11th and 13th with times of 1:05.78 and 1:12.15, respectively.
Cagle and Elliott went 12th and 13th in the 100Y butterfly with times of 1:09.96 and 1:12.81, respectively.
For the men, the team of Gavin Turner, JJ Silmon, Ian Esquivel and Parker Rea finished fifth in the 200Y medley relay with a time of 1:55.98. The group also placed fifth in the 200Y freestyle with a time of 1:41.81.
Silmon also competed in the 200Y individual medley relay where he placed eighth with a time of 2:22.93. He improved his finish in the 100Y breaststroke, placing seventh with a time of 1:12.25.
In the 50Y freestyle, Rea, Esquivel and Gavin placed 17th, 18th and 19th with times of 23.78, 25.63 and 27.02, respectively.
In the 200Y freestyle, Rea and Esquivel finished with time of 2:02.69 and 2:08.18 to place eighth and 10th, respectively.
Turner competed in the 100Y backstroke where he finished with a time of 1:08.05 to place sixth.
Silmon and Esquivel competed in the 100Y butterfly where they swam times of 1:00.94 and 1:05.07 to place 12th and 13th, respectively.
Sterling will be back in action "next year" on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Liberty, Mo. at William Jewell.
