Sterling College comes out on top against Saint Mary

Warrior tennis went to work against Saint Mary University traveling to Leavenworth, Kan. to get the 4-3 win over the Spires on Saturday, April 12.

Sterling started off a step behind, losing the doubles point in a 2-1 split.

Kazuki Fukushima and Kyosuke Ishida faced Nils Dueppe and Evan Maritz in no. 1 doubles play narrowly losing, 7-6. In the no. 2 doubles match, Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and David Garces lost 6-3 to Carlos Grimaldi and Nudem Koyuncu. Adam King and Louis Boisdenghien got a win for the Warriors in no. 3 doubles play with a 7-5 victory over Leyton Ross and Jackson Contrucci.

The Warriors turned things around in singles play starting with a big win from Pedro Felipoff in no. 1 singles. Felipoff took Grimaldi to three sets, losing the first set 6-3, before coming back with a 6-3 win in set two and a 6-4 win in set three to solidify the win. In no. 2 singles play, Yohann Molle took on Dueppe and lost 6-2, 6-2.

Louis Boisdenghien got the three-set win over Maritz in the no. 3 singles match. He lost the first set 6-3 before coming back with 6-4 wins in both the second and third set. Angel Marin also found himself in a three-set showdown in the no. 4 singles contest against Koyuncu. Marin lost the first set 6-3, won the second set 6-2 and lost the third set 6-1.

The no. 5 singles match was also determined in three sets as Nicholas Sprenger Sampaio took on Contrucci. Sprenger Sampaio ultimately got the win, winning the first set 6-3, losing the second set 6-2 and winning the third set 6-4. Cifuentes Aguilar kept things short and sweet with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over Ross in the no. 6 singles match.
