Warriors set new personal bests at Tabor Invite
HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Warriors competed at the Tabor College Invitational on Saturday, April 11. Despite high winds and the threat of rain, Sterling several athletes post new personal bests.
Sterling started strong on the track with the men posting three personal bests in the 100m dash. Nazar Hayden led the trio, finishing second with a time of 10.89 while David Sullivan and Cameron Salazar finished 15th and 19th with times of 11.36 and 11.64, respectively.
Hayden continued his personal best performances in the 200m dash placing second with a personal best time of 22.31. Also competing in the 200m dash and setting personal bests were Charles Jones and Salazar who placed 16th and 25th with times of 23.36 and 25.10, respectively.
Watson, Jones, Haydon and Salazar teamed up on the men's 4x100m relay to finish fourth with a time of 43.50. In the 400m dash, Wesley Brantley ran a time of 59.97 to finish 13th. In the 800m run, Camryn Gantt and Jacob Tonne finished fourth and fifth with times of 2:10.97 and 2:11.29, respectively.
Jace Gaston finished things up on the track with a personal best in the 1500m run, finishing ninth with a time of 4:47.19.
The personal bests kept coming in for the Warriors in the field events as Kevin Jones posted a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.14m (20-1.75) to place fourth. Salazar and Haydon also competed in the long jump, finishing seventh and ninth with marks of 5.91m (19-4.75) and 5.71m (18-8.75), respectively. Cedric Wilson also competed in the jumps, finishing second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.93m (6-4).
In the throws, Blake Robertson had a personal best performance in the discus finishing fourth with a mark of 47.42m (155-7). Calen Wente was right behind him, finishing sixth with a throw of 42.09m (138-1). Keaton Miller and Brayden Kermode also competed in the discus where they finished 15th and 16th with marks of 34.21m (112-3) and 31.31m (102-8), respectively.
The group of four also competed in the hammer throw. Roberston finished second with a heave of 48.75m (159-11), Wente placed eighth with a throw of 39.50m (129-7), Kermode finished 13th with a toss of 35.27m (116-0) and Miller rounded out the field with a mark of 31.38m (102-11) to place 19th.
In the shot put, Robertson and Miller placed fifth and eighth with marks of 14.75m (48-4.75) and 11.87m (38-11.5), respectively. In the javelin, James Dickerman placed fourth with a toss of 47.46m (155-8) and was followed by teammate Tod Mastin who finished 11th with a mark of 40.39m (132-6).
For the women, the Lady Warriors continued to set personal bests on the track. Audrey Blake ran a personal best time of 24:01.66 and was followed closely by Lydia Nelson who finished with a time of 24:01.80, to place fourth and fifth, respectively. Janie Perico also set a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase, running a time of 14:53.44 to finish fourth.
Also on the track was Claire Miller who ran a time of 5:27.42 to win the 1500m run. She also competed in the 800m run where she finished sixth with a time of 2:48.08.
In the throws, Briana Croisant had a personal best day in both the hammer throw and the javelin. She finished ninth in the hammer with a toss of 36.22m (118-10) and placed 13th in the javelin with a mark of 29.22m (95-10).
Sheridan Nguyen also had a personal best day in the field events. She placed fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.33m (7-7.75) and finished ninth in the long jump with mark of 4.27m (14-0).
Belle Barnett rounded out the field events by winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.68m (5-6).
Sterling will be back on the track on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 at the Coyote Classic hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan.
