Warriors Show Promise at Muthama-Rogers Invitational
Newton, Kan. – The Muthama-Rogers Invitational, hosted by Bethel College, is where the Warriors ran their second race of the season. It provided a good opportunity to test themselves against many other KCAC teams. It was a warm and breezy day for the runners. Although the course was flat, it was challenging and runners seemed to have slower times overall. That being said, SC's runners were able to put in good times for the early season.
Freshman Daryen Jefferson paved the way for the Warriors as he placed 12th overall out of 87 runners in the men's 8K race. The time in his debut race, 28:22, was good enough to put him fourth on the list of KCAC runners in the field. It was also one of the fastest times run by a Sterling XC runner in recent years. Returners Dawson Urwiller and Janie Perico both improved on their times from last season in the same race.
Sterling anticipates a few more runners to return over the next several weeks giving them an opportunity to be more competitive individually and as a team.
SC takes the next few weekends off as they prepare for the Golden Eagle XC Invite hosted by John Brown University on October 5. The weekend following they will run at the Carol Swenson Invite.
