Running Warriors open up the season at Spire Sunset Showdown

Sterling College cross country opened up their season at the Spire Sunset Showdown on Friday, Aug. 29 in Leavenworth, Kan. The season opener proved to be a great rust buster for the Warriors and was a record day for Daryen Jefferson.

For the men, Jefferson had a strong performance finishing 27th with a time of 27:18.1, that time placed him in the history books as the ninth fastest 8K time in Warrior history.

Jacob Tonne was a little over a minute behind him with a time of 28:35 to finish 54th. Camryn Gantt was the next Warrior to finish with a time of 30:06.5 to place 68th. Jace Gaston finished right behind him in 74th with a time of 31:05.8.

The fifth runner for the Warriors was Ian Chrisler who ran a time of 32:44.7 to place 83rd. Wesley Brantley ran a time of 33:33.8 to finish 85th.

On the women's side, Claire Miller led the Lady Warriors with a time of 22:47.4 to finish 40th in the 5K. Lydia Nelson was seconds behind her with a time of 22:52.8 to place 43rd. The final runner for Sterling was Audrey Blake who finished 54th with a time of 27:56.8.

Sterling will be back at it in North Newton, Kan. at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
