Sterling splits in double header against Wayland Baptist

Game 1
The Sterling College Lady Warriors had trouble keeping up with Wayland Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 15 as they lost the first game of a double header 15-9.
Wayland got on the board in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs right off the bat with a single to right field from Amber Poorbaugh and a single to right center from Addy Rich.
They continued to roll in the second inning, putting up two more scores to lead the Lady Warriors 4-0 going into the top of the third.
The Lady Warriors were able to answer in the top of the third with a triple from Mariah Cunnigham to left field and a single from Kelly Hirlas, making the score 2-4. However, by the end of the third inning Wayland had extended thier lead to 7-2.
Sterling answered back in the fifth making the score 7-5 when Desiree Perales hit a solo home run to left field, and Mallory Seidel scored after tagging up.
Allie Olivarria stepped in the circle first for Sterling College Warriors. The righty gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over two innings, with no strike outs or walks. Rich opened the game for Wayland Baptist. The pitcher allowed nine hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two.
Sterling College Warriors tallied 14 hits in the game. Hirlas, Cunningham, Perales, Mya' Dunn and Bryley Westfahl each collected two hits for the Sterling College Warriors. The Lady Warriors were patient at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Aiyana Campos and Westfahl led the team with two free passes each.
Westfahl led the Lady Warriors in stolen bases with three as her team amassed a total of seven for the game.

In game two, Perales drove in five runs on three hits to lead Sterling College Warriors past Wayland Baptist 13-11. She doubled in the seventh scoring two, hit a solo home run to left field in the third scoring one, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
Bats blistered as Sterling College Warriors collected 13 hits and Wayland Baptist tallied 16 in the high-scoring game.
Wayland got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Poorbaugh tripled to center field, and Mikenzi Carlo singled, each scoring one run.
The Lady Warriors tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a double by Mallory Seidel and a secrifice fly from Madilynn Green.
A solo home run to left field by Perales gave Sterling the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third.
The lady Warriors scored five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. Dunn homered to left field, scoring two runs, Perales doubled, scoring two runs, and scored herself after a sacrifice fly from Kassedy Midgley.
Wayland Baptist tried to come back in the bottom of the seventh with eight runs of seven hits, but the Lady Warriors stayed tough and finished strong, with Madison Hedgecock coming in for relief pitching.
MacKenzie Viehland started the game for Sterling. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Adriana Armstrong stepped in the circle first for Wayland Baptist. The she surrendered 14 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking none.
