Lady Warriors fall to Stars

Oklahoma City University defeated Sterling College with a decisive 12-0 victory on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Brian Harvey Field. The home team capitalized on relentless offensive pressure, recording 39 total shots and 16 shots on goal. The Stars found the back of the net three times in the first half and added nine more goals in the second half, securing the win without conceding a goal.

The first half began with Oklahoma City mounting pressure early, as Bella Duckworth made crucial saves for Sterling, including a stop against Ashley Russell's on-target attempt at 3:53. Despite her efforts, the Stars found the back of the net first when Tatum Tallal scored in the 5th minute, assisted by Kayleigh Haygood. Oklahoma City continued their offensive push, with Amelia Horsford scoring twice, bringing the score to 3-0 by the 18th minute, both goals assisted by Tallal. Sterling's defense, led by Duckworth, faced a barrage of shots and corner kicks throughout the half, but the Lady Warriors held firm to prevent further damage.

The second half began with Oklahoma City quickly extending their lead with a goal by Horsford in the 46th minute, assisted by Haygood. Sterling responded with efforts from Francesca Vilca and Sheridan Nguyen, but both attempts were saved by the opposing goalkeeper, Candela Blanco. Despite these efforts, the Stars maintained pressure, adding multiple goals throughout the half, culminating in a 12-0 final score.

Nguyen and Vilca each recorded a shot on goal, contributing to Sterling's offensive efforts. Dakota Reid also added a shot on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposition's defense. In goal, Duckworth made four saves across the match, facing 16 shots to keep her team competitive.

Sterling falls to 2-2-0 overall after the loss and will face Southwestern Christian (4-0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Bethany, Okla. at 1 p.m.
