Sterling stifled by Southwestern Christian defense

Southwestern Christian University overwhelmed Sterling College with a commanding 7-0 victory on Saturday. The Eagles dominated the match with 27 total shots and 11 on goal, while the Warriors managed only one shot. Southwestern Christian's relentless offense included three first-half goals and four in the second half, securing a decisive win.

The first half witnessed a strong offensive surge from Southwestern Christian, starting with a goal by Rachel Foster in the 16th minute, assisted by Shosona Graham. The Warriors' defense faced significant pressure, with Riley Stanfill scoring twice, in the 20th and 23rd minutes, both with assists from Graham, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Bella Duckworth contributed a key save in the 37th minute, holding the scoreline as the Warriors aimed to regroup and respond in the upcoming half.

The second half commenced with Southwestern Christian maintaining offensive pressure, leading to a series of near misses and ultimately capitalizing with a goal from Payton Donnell in the 59th minute. The Warriors' goalkeeper, Duckworth, delivered key saves in the 50th and 51st minutes, momentarily stifling Southwestern Christian's advances. Despite efforts, including a high shot by Cheyenne Siler in the 60th minute, the Warriors were unable to change the scoreline, ending the game with a 7-0 deficit.

Duckworth recorded four saves in goal during her 90 minutes on the field. Siler attempted one shot, contributing to the Warriors' offensive efforts.

The Warriors dropped to 2-3-0 overall following the loss and look to open up conference play at Bethany College (0-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
