Duckworth records thirteen saves in loss to Falcons

Friends defeated Sterling 6-0 on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Adair-Austin Stadium in Wichita, Kan. Despite the loss, Sterling's goalkeeper recorded 13 saves, with seven in the first half and six in the second half, showcasing a strong defensive effort. The Falcons dominated with 36 shots, 19 of which were on target, while their defense held Sterling to just two shots on goal.

The first half began with Sterling facing early pressure from Friends University, with Bella Duckworth making a crucial save in the 7th minute. However, the Falcons capitalized shortly after with Trinity Granger scoring, assisted by Elisa Murrieta, to take the lead.

Sterling's defense held firm against multiple attempts, with Duckworth adding several saves, but Friends University extended their advantage with goals from Yaretzy Tejeda and Kieley Aranda, the latter assisted by Solenn Levesque. Despite Sterling's efforts, the Falcons continued to press, culminating in a fourth goal by Aranda near the end of the half.

As the half closed, Sterling trailed 4-0, with the Falcons maintaining the upper hand.

The second half began with a quick impact from the Falcons, as Paige Putter scored in the opening minute, assisted by Granger, to increase their lead. Sterling faced continued pressure, and despite a save by Duckworth at the 51st minute, Tejeda extended the Friends University advantage to 6-0 with a goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Mackenzie Cunningham.

Sterling's offensive efforts included a shot by Makenna Monnier at the 64th minute, which was saved by Camila Apple. Francesca Vilca also tested the Falcons' defense with a shot at the 83rd minute, but Apple again made the save. Duckworth recorded multiple saves to prevent further scoring, but the half concluded with Friends University maintaining a significant lead, ending at 6-0.

Duckworth recorded 13 saves in the match, facing 19 shots overall. Monnier and Vilca each managed to contribute with one shot on goal.

Sterling holds a record of 2-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference play. They will take on Kansas Wesleyan University (7-3-2, 5-1-1) in Salina, Kan. on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
