Lady Warriors win Barton Invitational, men finish second
BARTON COUNTY, Kan. – Sterling College Swim competed in the Barton Invitational hosted by Barton Community College on Friday, Oct. 24. The men placed second at the invitational as a team with 120 points while the women won with 288 points.
For the men, the team of Gavin Turner, Juwayne "JJ" Silmon, Ian Esquivel and Parker Rea finished third in the 200Y medley relay with a time of 1:59.33.
Rea and Esquivel also competed in the 100Y freestyle finishing sixth and ninth with times of 55.18 and 1:00.25, respectively.
Esquivel also competed in the 200Y freestyle finishing second with a time of 2:14.21 while Rea competed in the 50Y freestyle finishing with a time of 24.56 to finish second.
Silmon competed in the 100Y breaststroke and 100Y butterfly placing second and fourth with times of 1:19.59 and 1:03.41, respectively.
For the women, the team of Allison Reed, Lydia Nelson, Abby Cagle and Hilde Heskett won with 200Y medley relay with a time of 2:08.67. Cagle, Heskett, Nelson and Elliott Campbell also won the 200Y freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.51.
Bree Pickerell won the 200Y individual medley with a time of 2:30.53 and swam a time of 5:47.38 in the Mixed 500Y Freestyle and finished third.
Cagle won the 50Y freestyle with a time of 27.03 also competing in the event was Nelson who swam a time of 27.94 to place third, Reed who placed fourth with a time of 27.94 and Heskett who finished sixth with a time of 28.59. Cagle also won the 100Y butterfly with a time of 1:14.28.
Elliott and Reed went took first and second in the 100Y freestyle with times of 1:01.41 and 1:01.81, respectively. Elliot also won the 200Y freestyle with a time of 2:22.22.
Reed and Heskett competed in the 100Y backstroke finishing third and fourth with times of 1:17.41 and 1:21.66, respectively.
Next up, the Warriors will travel to Kearney, Neb. to compete at the University of Nebraska – Kearney on Saturday, Nov. 8.
