Successful Weekend for Warrior Tennis

Sterling, Kan. – The Warrior tennis teams took to the courts both Friday and Saturday. They swept the Hastings Broncos on Friday, not giving up a point on either side. They earned a split Saturday at Concordia University as the women won and the men dropped their first match of the season.

Friday Women – Sterling 7, Hastings 0

The Lady Warriors took on a depleted Hastings College team and went on to get the sweep. For the doubles points, Sofia Tominaga and Ana Alvarez defeated Carter and Willcoxon 6-2, and Rachel Carlson and Nadia Margaritov defeated Harveson and Harris 6-0. The third match was won by default. Below you will find the singles match scores starting with No. 1 singles.

The Sterling women have started the season 2-0 and have not given up a point to date.

Friday Men – Sterling 7, Hastings 0

The Warrior men opened their spring season in an excellent way as well. They swept their opening day opponent 7-0.

In doubles, Alexandre Gaboardi and David Garces defeated Smeltzer and Mins 6-2. The other doubles match was Pedro Felipoff and Louis Boisdenghien defeating Lopez and Waite 6-3. The final doubles match was won by default. The singles matches were scored as follows.

An excellent way for the Warrior men to start the spring season.

Saturday Women – Sterling 5, Concordia (Neb.) 2

The Lady Warrior's success continued into a trip to Seward, Neb. as they won handily again over the Concordia University Bulldogs.

This time facing a full squad, Sterling lost the doubles point, only winning one of the three matches. The only successful match was Carlson/Mararitov defeating Molano/Hosick, 6-2. Sterling proceeded to win five of the six singles matches.

Saturday Men – Sterling 3, Concordia (Neb.) 4

The Men's team took their first loss of the season in a tough matchup against a good Bulldog team. The doubles point is what decided the match as the Bulldogs the doubles point winning two of three matches. Gaboardi/Garces was the lone duo to win a match against Concordia.

The singles points were split three to three with the individual scores below.

The Sterling men are now 1-1 early on and will spend the week of spring break on the road against nonconference opponents before starting KCAC play on March 16th.
