Sterling faces tough Thunder Wolves team in home opener

The Sterling College Lady Warrior tennis team hosted Colorado State University - Pueblo for their season opener on Thursday, Feb. 27. The Lady Warriors were able come away with two individual wins in the 6-1 loss to the NCAA DII ThunderWolves.

The ThunderWolves took the point in the doubles matchups. In #1 doubles, Nadia Margaritov and Giovana Gaboardi took on Valentina Brienza and Marta Garcia in a loss for the Lady Warriors that went to a 7-6 tie breaker.

Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez represented the Lady Warriors in the #2 doubles match facing Margot Aebischer and Yelena Travica who got the 6-0 win.

In the #3 doubles match, Greta Fankhauser and Hannah Giordanelli got the 7-5 tie-breaker win over Malaya Pendon and MaKayla Martinez.

In the singles match ups, Alvarez went up against Brienza in the #1 singles position losing 6-2, 6-0. For the #2 singles match, Margaritov faced Aebischer and lost 6-4, 6-1. Gaboardi represented the Lady Warriors in the #3 singles game going 6-3, 6-2 in a loss to Garcia.

In the #4 singles spot, Giordanelli took on Travica winning the first set 6-1 before losing the next two 7-5, 6-3. Brooklynn Kuhn represented Sterling in the #5 match, facing Pendon and losing 6-1, 6-0. Fankhauser closed things out in the #6 singles position beating Martinez 6-4, 7-6.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action for their conference opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Satuday, March 1.
