Sterling battles against Ottawa

Sterling College women's tennis faced a tough Ottawa University team at home on Saturday, March 22 where they lost 4-3.

In the doubles match ups, Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov lost 6-3 in the no. 1 match to Valeria Rodriguez and Alexandra Persson. In the no. 2 doubles match, Greta Fankhauser and Hannah Giordanelli took on Alejandra Parra Herrera and Camryn Medina losing 6-4. Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez got the default win in the no. 3 doubles match.

The Lady Warriors continued to battle in singles play. Alvarez went to extra sets against Rodriguez in the no. 1 match where she won the first set 6-0 and lost sets two and three 6-1, 6-2. Margaritov also lost the no. 2 singles match in a tie breaker contest. Margaritov lost the first set 6-0, came back to win the second set 7-6 and lost the tie breaker 6-1.

In the no. 3 singles match, Gaboardi got the 6-2, 6-2 win against Parra Herrera while Giordanelli lost to Medina in the no. 4 match, 6-0, 6-0. Fankhauser and Brooklyn Kuhn got the default wins in the no. 5 and no. 6 singles matches, respectively.

Sterling will be back in action Monday, March 24 against Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.
