Lady Warriors battle against Threshers, listed no. 48 in ITA rankings

The Sterling College women's tennis team competed against Bethel College at home on Thursday, April 10. The Lady Warriors fought hard but ultimately fell to the Threshers, 5-2.

Bethel started by sweeping the doubles matches to obtain the first point of the match. Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov represented the Lady Warriors in the no. 1 doubles match losing 6-2 to Daniela Herrera and Patty Huerta.

In no. 2 doubles play, Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser fell to Grace Dawes and Charis Yager, 6-0. Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez took on Kate Rowland and Jireh Gonzalez in the no. 3 doubles match taking the 7-5 loss.

Sterling continued to battle in singles play. Alvarez lost 6-2, 6-2 to Herrera in the no. 1 singles match. In the no. 2 singles match, Margaritov got the win over Dawes, 6-2, 6-3. Giordanelli represented the Lady Warriors in no. 3 singles play losing 6-4, 6-3 to Jenna Mahoney.

Brooklyn Kuhn battled in the no. 4 singles match, winning the first set against Huerta 6-3, before losing the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4. Castro Medina got the tie-breaker win over Rowland in the no. 5 singles match losing the first set 7-6 before winning the second set 6-4 and winning the tie breaker 10-5. Fankhauser finished out the day in no. 6 singles play, losing to Camila Lopez, 7-6, 6-2.

Sterling women's tennis also broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings, being ranked no. 48 in the NAIA Women's Collegiate Tennis Ranking that were released on April 10. For a complete list of rankings click HERE.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action in Leavenworth, Kan. on Saturday, April 12 against St. Mary University.
