Lady Warriors battle against Spires
Sterling College women's tennis faced a tough Saint Mary University team in Leavenworth, Kan. on Saturday, April 12. The team battled hard but lost 4-3.
The Lady Warriors started strong, getting the doubles point in a 2-1 split. Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov won the no. 1 doubles match 7-6 over Tracy Llamas and Rowen Weimers.
In no. 2 doubles play, Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser took on Shannon Finn and Mia Rojas losing 6-3. Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez sealed the point with a 6-4 win over Courtney Standley and Monserrat Guerrero Chapula in the no. 3 doubles match.
Despite the strong start, Sterling was unable to capitalize in singles play. Alvarez lost to Llamas in no. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. In the no. 2 singles match, Margaritov beat Finn, 7-5, 6-2. Giordanelli lost the no. 3 singles match 6-4, 7-5 to Rojas.
Brooklyn Kuhn started off strong in the no. 4 singles contest against Guerrero Chapula with a 6-4 win in the first set but lost the second and third set, 6-1, 6-2 respectively. Castro Medina got the 6-3, 6-3 win over Wiemers in no. 5 singles play. In the no. 6 singles match, Fankhauser battled hard taking Standley to three sets but ultimately fell short. She lost the first set 6-3, won the second set 7-6 and lost the third set 6-4.
