Lady Warriors show promise in season opener at Bethany
Sterling College Lady Warrior Tennis started the fall season at the Bethany College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6. Due to weather, the doubles portion of the invitational was canceled.
Danna Arroyo represented Sterling in the Draw A section of the tournament became the consolation winner. She faced Liz Calderon of Doane University in the opening round where she lost 8-4.
Arroyo then faced Sofia Castillo Paz of Bethany College where she won 8-1. She then beat Dayna Steadman of Baker University to take home the Consolation Winner title 8-3.
Greta Fankhauser competed in the Draw C section of the invitational where she faced Angeliki Efthymiou of Fort Hays State University in the opening round, losing 8-0. She then lost to Alivia Sherer of Kansas Wesleyan University 8-0 and got her first win of the season against Ania Bonner of Kansas Wesleyan University 8-1.
Cylie Latourell swept the Draw E section of the invitational starting with an 8-6 victory over Jacilyn Seachris of Tabor College. She then beat Lexi Cook of Kansas Wesleyan University 8-4 and took the championship win over Bella Myers of Kansas Wesleyan University 8-2.
The Lady Warrior's next event is Tuesday, Sept. 16 against Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan.
