Arroyo, Fankhauser represent Sterling in ITA Regionals
The Lady Warriors traveled to Salina, Kan. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27 in the final tournament for Sterling this fall.
In the women's open singles division, Danna Arroyo started off the round of 64 with a win over Rylee Frye of Kansas Wesleyan, 6-3, 6-1. She then lost 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32 to Rocio Espinal of Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Arroyo teamed up with Greta Fankhauser in the round of 32 for the women's open doubles division. The duo came up short in the opening round with a 8-3 loss to Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon of Doane University. In the consolation bracket, the pair beat Alli-balogun Mariam and Alexandra Persson of Ottawa University 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. Their time in the tournament was cut short with a loss to Carla Arce and Kaja Brunzlow of Texas Wesleyan University, 6-2.
The Lady Warriors will be back in action for team competitions in the spring.
