Arroyo starts spring season strong
HASTINGS, Neb. – Sterling College women's tennis started out their spring season against Hastings College on Friday, Feb. 7. The Lady Warriors showed strong performances but came up short as the Broncos got the 6-1 win.
Hastings started off the day be earning the doubles point. Sterling's Danna Arroyo and Hannah Giordanelli teamed up to get a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match against Josline Carter and Cara Ansbach. Greta Fankhauser and Jessica Gautreau paired up in the No. 2 doubles match where they lost to Hasting's Paige Willcoxon and Lexi Benson, 6-2. A forfeiture in the No. 3 doubles match gave the Broncos the edge as they claimed the doubles points.
Arroyo continued to roll in No. 1 singles play where she defeated Ansbach, 6-0, 6-0. Giordanelli represented the Lady Warriors in the No. 2 singles match against Carter where she lost in a tightly contested 7-5, 6-3 outcome. In No. 3 singles, Fankhauser took on Willcoxon losing the match 6-3, 6-0. Gautreau face Benson in the No. 4 singles match where she lost 6-0, 6-0.
Sterling conceded the No. 5 and 6 singles matches to end the day 6-1 behind Hastings.
