Arroyo gets an upset win in McPherson

MCPHERSON, Kan – Sterling College Women's Tennis took on McPherson College in a rescheduled match on Monday, March 30. Although the team lost, 6-1, Arroyo achieved a big win from the No. 1 singles position to secure the Lady Warrior's point.

The Bulldogs started by claiming the doubles point winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles match. Dana Arroyo and Hannah Giordanelli took on Taimi Nashiku and Bella Ellerbee in No. 1 doubles where they lost 6-3. Jessica Gautreau and Greta Fankhauser teamed up to take on Laureen Van Drunen and Vanessa Hofer but came up short, 6-0.

In singles play, Arroyo pulled off the upset over Hofer, winning the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-3. In No. 2 singles play, Giordanelli faced Nashiku and lost 6-1, 6-1. Fankhauser lost to Ellerbee 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match while Gautreau lost to Van Drunen 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Elysa Apen closed out the field for the Lady Warriors with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Eva Lesteluhu in the No. 5 singles match.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action against Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. on April 1 with play scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
