Barnett qualifies for NAIA Nationals at Wichita State Coach Wilson Invitational

WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling College Track and Field competed at the Wichita State Coach Wilson Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31. The team had a strong outing with Belle Barnett clearing the NAIA B standard in the high jump with a clearance of 1.66m (5-5.25).

For the men, Cedric Wilson was the lone high jumper for Sterling. Finishing in eighth with a clearance of 1.97m (6-5.5).

Charles Jones represented the Warriors in the long jump, finishing ninth with a mark of 6.89 (22.7.25). Kevin Jones and Tod Mastin also competed in the long jump, finishing with jumps of 5.78m (18.11-5) and 5.57m (18-3.25) to place 34th and 37th, respectively.

In the throws, Blake Roberston finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 15.39m (50-6). Brayden Kermode also competed in the shot put where he placed 38th with a throw of 10.48m (34-4.5).

Robertson and Kermode also competed in the weight throw where they placed eighth and 22nd with throws of 16.47m (54-0) and 12.56m (41.2), respectively.

On the track, Nazar Haydon competed in the 60m dash and the 200m dash running times of 7.44 and 25.07 to place 74th and 54th, respectively. In the 400m dash, David Sullivan and Ian Chrisler ran times of 53.32 and 55.65 to finish 32nd and 50th, respectively.

In the distance races, Camrynn Gant competed in the Mile where he finished 37th with a time of 4:52.2. Gantt also ran in the 5000m with Jace Gaston. The duo finished in 12th and 17th with times of 17:07.07 and 17:49.24, respectively.

For the women, Belle Barnett had an impressive outing in the high jump where she won the event with a personal best clearance of 1.66m (5-5.25) which was also an NAIA B qualifying standard.

In the throws, Briana Croisant also had a personal best performance in the shot put where she threw a 9.77m (32-0.75) to place 25th. She also competed in the weight throw with a mark of 9.98m (32-5.5) to finish 31st.

On the track, Claire Miller represented the Lady Warriors in the distance races finishing 13th in the 1000m run with a time of 3:25.55 for a new personal best. She also had a personal best in the Mile where she placed 21st with a time of 5:55.76. Audrey Blake also competed in the Mile running a time of 7:02.22 to finish 50th.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Fred Beile Classic hosted by Doane University in Crete, Neb.
