Warrior Season Ends in KCAC First Round
Wichita, Kan.-The Sterling College Lady Warrior volleyball team traveled to Wichita to take on the Friends University Falcons in the Garvey Center. Sterling College held the #10 seed in this KCAC matchup and Friends was the higher seed having finished the season in seventh place.
The Warriors had a hard time getting anything going as they lost the match in straight sets, 25-21, 25-9, 25-17. The first set was played close and Sterling was within reach most of the game, even tying the set at 18, but they were not able to make that push to take the lead down the stretch.
Sterling could not catch a rhythm in the second set, giving up 11 straight points during one stretch that put Friends well in control of the set and match. It is always hard to come back after a tough set and regain focus, but that is what the Warriors tried to do in the third set. Sterling was able to hold an early set lead, but a mini run by the Falcons gave them the lead and they would not give it back up. Much of the set was trading points but the difference was a couple of small runs by Friends that gave them the 25-17 third set win.
On a tough night statistically, Shelby McHargue, Emily Peterson and Jordyn Jellison were the leading attackers for Sterling. Aubrey Young led Sterling in assists in the 6-2 offense that Sterling ran this season. Nyah Isom anchored the back row for Sterling.
Sterling finished the season with a 10-17 (3-9) record that put them in tenth place in the KCAC during the regular season.
