Lady Warriors Strong in 3 Set Loss to #23 McPherson College
Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warrior volleyball team hosted the #23 McPherson Bulldogs on Wednesday night and the match didn't disappoint. The first two sets felt much more competitive than their 25-14, 25-15 scores indicate. They both felt more like the third set where Sterling had a lead late in the set and had their sights set to play a fourth set. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the experience McPherson team found a way to go on a run late and close out the set and the match with a 25-22 third set win. The spark off the bench came from Kaira Rodriguez who played in just the third set and managed 3 kills that fired up all of the Warrior faithful; both those in the crowd and on the team. Sterling fell in straight sets, but was able to see what they can do against the top tier teams in the KCAC. This is a confidence they will need when they host #6 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.
Aliya McClanahan was the lone Warrior in double figure kills with 11, she added 3 blocks as well. With limited number of opportunities, Makenna Linden was the only Warrior to reach double figures in digs as well. The 11 kills by McClanahan matched McPherson's top player as well. Sterling had five service aces as a team, two came from Dru Lindsey.
Sterling hosts #6 OKWU on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in the Gleason Center. Sterling is 10-7 overall this season with a 1-3 conference record that places them 10th in conference play with much of the conference season remaining.
