Warriors Efficient on Offense; Fall to Swedes 35-14
Lindsborg, Kan. – SC football was on the road once again this time taking on the Bethany College Swedes. All was well for the Warriors as they held a lead most of the second quarter until the Swedes scored late to take a 21-14 lead with just seconds remaining in the first half. In the second half, Bethany was able to pull away scoring once in the third and once more in the fourth quarter. The Warriors fell 35-14 to the Swedes.
Sterling led in most offensive statistical categories to correlate to victory. The Warriors were equal in first downs on the night and were dominant in total yards and passing yards. They were neck-and-neck in rushing yards. Their average yards per play was even higher. Turnovers, once again, minimized the dominance that the offense was displaying. Sterling turned the ball over 5 times in the game.
Rocklin Baptista had one of his better career games in terms of passing yards as he went 11-19 for 208 yards, 2 TD's and 2 interceptions. Jordan Slocum took a number of snaps as well utilizing his legs as well as his arm. Kendrick Bell led Sterling once again with 62 rushing yards. Ryan Stucky caught three passes including a 62 yard strike from Baptista for a TD.
The Warriors play at home next weekend with the campus celebrating Homecoming throughout the weekend. Sterling has a tall order and will take on #25 Southwestern College. Game time is set for 1:30 pm with coronation happening before kickoff. This year there will be a Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place at 10:30 am in Wilkey Fieldhouse where the 2013 KCAC Champion Football Team will be celebrated amongst a number of other standout athletes.
