Heartbreaking Finish as Warriors Almost Spoil Tabor Homecoming
Hillsboro, Kan. – Warrior football almost got their first win of the season Saturday as they looked to play the spoiler of Tabor College's Homecoming festivities.
Sterling took the lead early in the second quarter on a 12 yard touchdown pass made by Jordan Slocum to Ryan Stucky. Tabor didn't answer until midway through the third with a 20 yard field goal. Sterling came back with another touchdown, this time rushing as Kendrick Bell muscled his way through the line for a 2 yard score. Tabor scored next with a TD keeping the game within distance at 14-10. In what looked to be the clincher, Sterling scored once again midway through the fourth quarter. Sebastian Moyer scampered in from 7 yards out for a TD, his first as a Warrior, to take a 21-10 lead. Sterling had been doing well at squandering any drive that Tabor put together up to that point. The Bluejays excelled at the right time scoring on a five play, 75 yard drive, and a 14 play, 91 yard drive on their final two possessions of the game. Tabor took the lead with just 24 seconds left in the game, their only lead of they day.
It was quarterback by committee with Slocum getting the start going 5-14 for 75 yards and a TD. Moyer came in and was 8-11 for 51 yards and added the rushing TD. Bell rushed 18 times for 59 yards and a score and Ryan Stucky led the receiving core with 4 receptions for 47 yards and a TD.
