Dominant on Both Ends of the Court, the Lady Warriors Start 2-0

McPherson, Kan. – Lady Warrior basketball got the season started over the weekend and they started scalding hot. Their opening night 93-19 win over Randall University was followed up with an 84-48 win over Central Christian College.

Defense won it for the Warriors against Randall, creating 42 turnovers for the Saints with the Warriors credited with 21 steals. All fifteen players saw significant time in the game. Korynn Clason led the offense for Sterling scoring 18 points in 19 minutes with 4 steals. Graduate transfer Alex Bearup scored 13 points on 6-8 shooting and McKenna Vogl added 11 in from the starting lineup. Kayla Morris came off the bench and added 13 points of her own. As a team the Warriors shot 55% from the field.

In the second night of back-to-back play, the Warriors were nearly as dominant as they were night one. Central Christian provided a bigger threat, but Sterling had an answer for everything the Tigers threw at them. Sterling had another twelve steals as a team and forced 22 turnovers. Clason had another excellent night with 22 points. Four of the Warriors starting five ended in double figures with Vogl's 16 points, Alissa Heskamp added 15, and Kali Briar 12. Sterling moved the ball well as is their style racking up 13 assists.

The Lady Warriors continue their road-heavy preseason with two more games this coming weekend. Friday afternoon they have a 1 pm start at Haskell University, followed by an 11 am start on Saturday at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
