Sterling opens up the season with a 2-1 win over Central Christian

The Lady Warriors start out the season with a 2-1 win over Central Christian in McPherson, Kan. on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Sterling started out hot with Cheyenne Siler scoring the first goal for the Lady Warriors less than four minutes into play off of an assist by Dakota Reid. Jessica Gautreau extended Sterling's lead with an unassisted goal toward the end of the first half at the 33:40 mark.

Central Christian got on the board just before time expired at the end of the first half with a goal from Maria Duda Farias off of an assist by Avery Lemons.

Goalie Bella Duckworth recorded two saves in the contest out of the Tiger's three shots on goal.

Sterling led in almost every statistical area, with 12 shots, eight shots on goals, two goals and one assist while Central Christian had 6 shots, three shots on goals, one goal and one assist.

The only area the Tigers led in was saves, as goalie Celena Vanhaezebrouck totaled six.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action, Tuesday, Sept. 4 at home against Hesston College.
