Sterling falls to Saint Mary in Leavenworth

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — The University of Saint Mary defeated Sterling College 6-0 on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Warriors managed four shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. The Spires capitalized on their opportunities with two goals in the first half and four in the second. The Lady Warriors' goalkeeper recorded three saves.

The first half began with USM taking the early lead as Andrea Morando found the net in the 3rd minute, assisted by Rebecca Lord. Sterling responded with a corner kick by Dakota Reid in the 10th minute, leading to a shot by Reid that was saved by Avah Casarez. Despite their efforts, the Spires extended their advantage in the 21st minute with a goal from Kate Erpelding, assisted by Nieves Vazquez.

Sterling continued to press forward with another corner from Reid in the 23rd minute, followed by a shot on goal by Natalie Schiavone, which was again saved by Casarez. Bella Duckworth contributed defensively with multiple saves, keeping the Warriors within striking distance. The half concluded with Sterling behind, 2-0.

The second half began with the Spires extending their lead through a goal by Vazquez in the 49th minute, assisted by Jordan Tran. The Lady Warriors faced strong offensive pressure from Saint Mary, who added another goal in the 54th minute through Lord, assisted by Vazquez.

Sterling's defensive efforts were tested as the Spires continued to press, scoring again in the 69th minute with Sadie Dipman finding the net. A corner kick by Reid in the 84th minute provided a chance for the Warriors, but the subsequent shot went high. USM sealed the half with a final goal by Natalie Flores in the 85th minute. The match concluded with the Spires leading 6-0.

Sterling falls to 2-14-1 overall and 0-11-1 in conference play. Up next, the Lady Warriors will celebrate Senior Day against the Ottawa University Braves (4-6-5, 3-4-4) on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Sterling, Kan. and will be the final regular-season game of the year for the Lady Warriors.
