HAVILAND, Kan. — Sterling College dominated Barclay College with a decisive 96-55 victory on Monday, Nov. 24. Sterling capitalized on a strong second half, outscoring the Bears 54-32 and recording 26 assists throughout the game.
Both teams were cold at the start, with Jaivion Reed starting things of with a pair of free throws for the Warriors a little over two minutes into play. His quickness was also showcased on the defensive end for Sterling, coming away with a game-high four steals in the contest. From there is was all Sterling as Julian Smith started heating up shooting 7-14 from the field, including 4-7 from three-point land.Smith was also big for Sterling on the boards, leading Sterling with eight rebounds.
Ziri Blackwood continued to keep things rolling for the Warriors, shooting 4-7 from the field and putting up 11 points while also dishing out five assist. Joseph Oparaeke made his presence known in the paint with two blocks in under 20 minutes of play.
By the half, Sterling had amounted a 46-27 lead.
In the second half, the Warrior bench was able to showcase their skills with Camren Johnson having an efficient night scoring 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. As a team, Sterling scored 63 bench points, amounted an impressive 26 assists while forcing 20 turnovers and grabbing 43 rebounds.
The Warriors shot over 48% from the floor, 35.5% from three, and scored 44 points in the paint to come away with a commanding 96-55 win.
Sterling (5-3) will be back in action against Hesston College (0-12) on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. in Hesston, Kan.
