The Lady Warriors go 1-1 on the weekend

The Lady Warriors came out of Peru, Neb. 1-1 over the weekend with a commanding 3-0 win over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and a devastating 3-2 loss to the home team, Peru State University.

Sterling started out hot against UHSP, with a 25-12 win in the first set and continued to dominate with a 25-5 win in the second and another 25-12 win in the third set.

Aliya McClanahan proved to be unstoppable on the attack with seven kills and an 87.5% kill percentage. She also totaled four blocks through three sets. Chloe Schmidt and Maddie Lundeen were close being with five kills each.

Defensively, libero Taylor "Dru" Lindsey led Sterling in digs with 12 followed by setter Keala Wilson with 10. Wilson also had 20 assists through three sets.

In the following match against Peru State, the Lady Warriors came out slow, losing the first set 25-16. Sterling was able to battle back and win the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-20, before losing the fourth set 25-18 and narrowly losing the fifth set 15-13 after being up 13-9.

McClanahan continued to be a force at the net with 12 kills followed closely by Schmidt and Gracie Kirchoff with 10 each. McClanahan and Kaira Rodriguez also led the team in blocks with five each.

Defensively, Grace Battershell and Lindsey each recorded 17 digs followed by Wilson with 14. Wilson also totaled 39 assists in the contest.

The Lady Warrior's (2-1) next contest will be against Kansas Christian College (0-1) in Sterling, Kan. on Monday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
